True Wealth is the Wealth of the Soul

The Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, said: “True wealth is the wealth of the soul.”

There are people for whom even millions do not quench their thirst or hunger; they remain in longing. If the son of ʾĀdam were given two valleys of gold, he would seek a third, and nothing fills the son of ʾĀdam’s belly except the soil of his grave. There, as a corpse buried in the earth, his desires, passions, and cravings finally come to an end.

On the other hand, some are blessed with contentment and satisfaction, living lives that even kings might envy, filled with purity, sufficiency, lawful sustenance, and peace of mind.

Once, Dhu l-Qarnayn passed through the Valley of Darkness and heard rustling under the hooves of the animals. He told his soldiers, “Take from these stones if you wish. Those who take will regret, and those who leave will regret.” Some took the stones, while others did not. Upon leaving the valley, they found that the stones were precious gems. Those who had taken the stones regretted not taking more, while those who had not taken any regretted even more.

May Allāh grant us purity and sufficiency.

The Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, said: “Whoever wakes up secure in his property, healthy in his body, and having his daily food, it is as if he has acquired the whole world.”
