A supplication from Imam Ali
O You who are nearer than the jugular vein,
O You who does whatever He wills and decrees whatever He intends,
O You who comes between a person and his heart,
O You who is in the highest view (the supreme station),
O You for whom there is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing—
I ask You for pardon and well-being,
and complete safety in this world and in the Hereafter.
I ask You to grant us the good of this world and the good of the Hereafter,
and to protect us from the evil of this world and the evil of the Hereafter.
And I ask You to conclude our lives with goodness,
and to choose for us, in all our affairs, that which is best—
indeed, You have power over all things.
