📜 A Historical Report on the Muṣḥaf of Amīr al-Muʾminīn ʿAlī (ʿalayhi al-salām)

Imām al-Hādī Yaḥyā b. al-Ḥusayn b. al-Qāsim b. Ibrāhīm b. Ismāʿīl b. Ibrāhīm b. al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (245–298 AH) said:

My father narrated to me from his father (al-Qāsim al-Rassī), that he said:

“I have read the Muṣḥaf of Amīr al-Muʾminīn ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (ʿalayhi al-salām), which was in the possession of an elderly lady from the daughters of al-Ḥasan b. Zayd b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib. I found that it was written in sections, with different sets of handwriting:

• One section: ‘Written by ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib.’
• Another: ‘Written by ʿAmmār b. Yāsir.’
• Another: ‘Written by al-Miqdād.’
• Another: ‘Written by Salmān al-Fārisī.’
• Another: ‘Written by Abū Dharr al-Ghifārī.’

It was as if they all worked together in writing it.

My grandfather al-Qāsim b. Ibrāhīm (ʿalayhi al-salām) said: I read it and found that it was the exact same Qurʾān that is between the hands of the people, letter by letter. Not a single letter was added, nor a single letter missing—except in the place of {Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you} [9:123], it was written: {Kill those of the disbelievers who are near to you}. And I read in it al-Muʿawwidhatayn (the two verses of refuge).”

📖 Testimony of His Son, Imām al-Murtaḍā

Imām al-Murtaḍā Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā, the son of Imām al-Hādī (ʿalayhimā al-salām), states explicitly in his al-Īḍāḥ:

“The recitation of Madīnah is the recitation that Allāh revealed to His Prophet (ṣallā Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-ālih).”
