When Was the Qur’an Compiled?

Imam Abi Talib al-Haruni (d. 424 AH) said:

“It is not permissible to say that the Qur’an was compiled in the era of the Companions in this order that it is today. [This statement] is incorrect because it was collected in the era of the Messenger, upon whom be peace, in this order.”

Arabic Text

قال الإمام أبي طالب الهاروني – المتوفى سنة ٤٢٤هـ -:
“لا يجوز أن يقال أن القرآن جمع في أيام الصحابة على هذا الترتيب الذي هو عليه اليوم؛ لأنه خطأ عظيم لأنه كان مجموعاً في أيام الرسول صلى الله عليه على هذا الترتيب”.
