Concerning the Faith of Abu Talib

Imam al-Mansur ‘Abdullah b. Hamza (d. 614 AH) records that the faith of Abu Talib was established as a matter of consensus by the imams of the Ahl al-Bayt. The following is one of the reports which the imam cites:

Imam Ali b. Muhammad al-Baqir (d. 116 AH) was asked whether or not Abu Talib was Muslim, to which his response was: “If we were to measure the faith of Abu Talib together with the faith of all other people, his would be heavier.”
