His Identity & Scholarly Standing

Imam al-Hādī al-Ḥuqaynī, Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn Jaʿfar ibn al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad al-Ḥuqaynī ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Aṣghar ibn ʿAlī Sayyid al-ʿĀbidīn Zayn al-ʿĀbidīn ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (may God be pleased with them).

His Stance Against the Bāṭiniyya & His Martyrdom

He was severe against the Bāṭinī heretics (al-malāḥida al-Bāṭiniyya). One of them — a Ḥashīshī, that is, a devotee-assassin (fidāʾī) of the Bāṭiniyya1 — acted treacherously against him and killed him on Monday in the month of Rajab in the year 490 AH.

A Sign of God’s Honour — Found Unchanged After One Hundred Years
A Sign from God

A wind blew after the passing of one hundred years from his death and uncovered his grave — and they saw him in his usual condition, unchanged, even the hair of his beard.

His Testament

He has a final testament (waṣiyya) at which minds are astounded. May God’s good pleasure and peace be upon him.
