Care of the Families of the Martyrs
In Al-Iḥtisāb, Imam al-Nāṣir al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Aṭrūsh (d. 304 AH) discusses the responsibilities assumed by the muḥtasib with respect to the families of martyrs. He states:
“The muḥtasib must consistently look after the children of the soldiers whose fathers were killed in the path of God, as well as their families. He must assess their circumstances and their means of livelihood. If any of them are in need of food or clothing, he should inform the Imam of their condition so that their needs may be met and their deficiencies remedied.”
