Do Zaydis do Taqiyyah?
Regarding the issue of taqiyyah among the Zaydis — does it have a legitimate (Shar‘i) basis, or do we not practice it as the Imāmiyyah (Twelvers) do? The reason for asking is the abundance of discussion on it among the Imāmiyyah.
Taqiyyah among the Zaydis is practiced only within the narrowest limits. It is not a habitual or general practice. It is only permissible when a person fears for his life, his honor, or his property. However, taqiyyah is not permissible for the Imām al-Qā’im (the active, manifest Imam), because that would lead to corruption and confusion among the subjects and the servants of God regarding the most critical aspects of their religion.
