Iftar / Breaking the Fast
The time for iftar comes in at the same time as the Maghrib prayer. According to our understanding, this time is when you can see a star in the sky if the night is clear.
We break the fast before the Maghrib prayer due to a ḥadīth in al-Majmūʿ of Imam Zayd (ʿalayhi al-salām), where the Prophet ﷺ encourages the hastening of breaking the fast.
👉 Breaking the fast here means eating or drinking something small (like a date or water). It does not refer to eating a complete meal, as is the custom in some cultures. Therefore, it should not take long to break the fast before the prayer.
And Allah knows best!
