Origin of Eid al-Ghadir

The scholar Sayyid Yahya b. al-Husayn b. al-Qassim (d. 1100 AH) highlights that the commemoration of Eid al-Ghadir was initiated by the Twelver Shi‘a and has no precedence amongst the Zaydiyya. He writes:

“The Khatib (preacher) of Sana’a, Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Sahuli (d. 1110 AH), spoke the speech of the Rafidah on the day of al-Ghadir, the eighteenth of the month of Dhuʻl-Hijjah on Friday, urging people to fast during it, and to show the slogan of the Twelver Imamate. No one of the people of his doctrine ever preached before him.”
