Imam al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Ḥusayn
Peace Be Upon Him
Imam al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī (peace be upon them). He lived in the era of al-Mutawakkil the ʿAbbāsid, who is the tenth of the ʿAbbāsid caliphs.
Al-Mutawakkil sent to him a physician who had smeared his hand with poison. He touched the Imam’s hand — and the pain in it did not cease until he (peace be upon him) died.

Al-Mutawakkil the ʿAbbāsid — the tenth caliph of the dynasty — turned his attention to Imam al-Qāsim during his reign.

IIThe Physician Sent as a Weapon
Al-Mutawakkil dispatched a physician whose hand he had smeared with poison — a calculated act of assassination carried out under the guise of medical care.

IIIContact & Unceasing Agony
The physician touched the Imam’s hand. From that moment, the pain did not cease.

IVMartyrdom
He (peace be upon him) died from the effect of the poison — martyred through treachery and deception.
May God’s prayers and peace be upon him — martyred through treachery, as so many of his forebears were before him. In him the pattern continued: the swords and poisons of the dynasty never rested from the family of the Prophet ﷺ.
