Imam al-Hasan ibn al-Hasan al-Riḍā

Epithet

Abu Muḥammad al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥasan al-Sibt — known as al-Riḍā.

His Rise

During the reign of ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Marwān.

Passing & Burial

Aged thirty-seven or thirty-eight years. Buried in al-Baqī’. Poisoned by al-Walīd ibn ‘Abd al-Malik al-Umawī — may God requite him.

His Identity

As for al-Riḍā, he is: Imam Abu Muḥammad al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ḥasan al-Sibt. His rise (peace be upon him) was during the days of ‘Abd al-Malik. He was poisoned by al-Walīd ibn ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Marwān al-Umawī — may God requite him.

He passed away at the age of thirty-seven or thirty-eight years, as reported in Al-Maṣābīḥ and Al-Ḥadā’iq, and he was buried in al-Baqī’.

His Presence at al-Ṭaff

He was among those who were present at al-Ṭaff alongside his uncle al-Ḥusayn ibn ‘Ali (peace be upon him). Al-Ḥusayn gave him his daughter Fāṭimah in marriage, and she was the mother of his children.

His Children

His children by Fāṭimah, daughter of al-Ḥusayn, were: ‘Abdullāh al-Kāmil, Ibrāhīm al-Shabah, and al-Ḥasan al-Muthallath. By another wife he had: Dāwūd and Ja’far (may God be pleased with them). Their further mention will come at the end of our book.1
