Abu al-Husayn al-Muhsin ibn Ja’far
Known as Ibn al-Rida, he rose in the districts of Damascus in the year 300 AH, was defeated and slain, and his head was carried to Baghdad and set up as a warning.
Among the notable figures of the Zaydiyya is Abu al-Husayn al-Muhsin ibn Ja’far, known to the chroniclers as Ibn al-Rida, who rose in the year 300 AH in the districts of Damascus and was killed for it — his head carried to Baghdad and set up on the New Bridge.

His uprising and his death, in the words of the chroniclers
Al-Mas’udi said: “The appearance of Ibn al-Rida — who is Muhsin ibn Ja’far ibn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Musa ibn Ja’far ibn Muhammad — took place in the districts of Damascus in the year 300 AH. He had a battle with Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Kayghalagh, and he was killed in captivity. It is also said that he was killed in battle, and his head was carried to the City of Peace (Baghdad) and set up on the New Bridge on the western side.”

Al-Namazi — of the Imamiyya — said: “In the year 300: Abu al-Rida Muhsin ibn Ja’far ibn Ali al-Hadi — peace be upon him — rose up; so they killed him and crucified his head, as reported in Tatimmat al-Muntaha.”

Al-Dhahabi said: “He rose up in the region of Syria (al-Sham) in the year 300; Ibn Kayghalagh fought him, defeated him, and killed him, and sent his head to Baghdad, where it was set up along with his banners turned upside down, as a sign of defeat.”
